Apple's new portables are here. Upgraded with the new Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, they are a major leap ahead in performance. Battery life is now up to 10 hours (anecdotal evidence suggests more) and in the premium aluminum unibody enclose you already love, the time for upgrading is now.
The entire line has seen a refresh, starting with the 13-inch models (still using the Intel Core 2 Duo for now) up to the 17-inch. The larger models also incorporate the autoswitching video card, from integrated GeForce 320M to the blazing fast GeForce GT 330M -- more power when you need it without having to think about it. Your battery performance is saved for when you really need it.
13-inch models come in 2.4GHz and 2.66GHz sizes. 15-inch in 2.4GHz, 2.53GHz, and 2.66GHz, the last using the Core i7 technology. Also in the 15-inch model is a SD card slot so you can upload your photos directly to the MacBook Pro without carrying around a card reader. The other features -- the one FireWire 800 port, the two USB 2.0 ports -- are already familiar to most of our clients.
The new MacBook Pro is a revolutionary machine and perfectly poised to become the only machine in your life. Speak to you dedicated Sales Representative about securing yours today.
This shipment comes approximately one month after the initial successful launch of the do-it-all device. Apple announced that it sold 300,000 iPads in the first day. This comes as only one of the two models is released, the wi-fi model. The big question on the minds of potential buyers is “Should I get the 3G model?”.
The iPad comes is 2 different variations, wi-fi and 3G, and 3 different sizes, 16gb, 32gb, and 64gb. Most people can decipher between which capacity is best for them due to what they intend to use it for. If the iPad is solely another way to get email and browse the web, then the larger capacity models may just be a waste of money. The big deciding factor now is dialed down to 3G or not 3G.
The 3G model has two distinct advantages, both which derive from the 3G connectivity. Most obvious is the ability to obtain a data connection away from a wi-fi network, as long at you are within AT&T’s coverage, and are paying for the service. The second advantage, a little less known, is the ability to use assisted GPS, or AGPS, as found in the original iPhone. It uses wi-fi and Cellular Triangulation to narrow your position to within approximately 1000 meters.
Here are some things to factor into your decision. With the 3G model, at any time you can add the data plan, cancel the data plan, or upgrade to the unlimited data plan all right from the device without the need to connect to iTunes or a computer. This means that the device can be used without the data plan until it is needed, rather than paying for a service that isn’t being used. There is no contract to sign, so cancel and re-add at any time. Battery life is going to also be affected. Apple rates the battery at approximately 10 hours of usage on both models. This includes media playback and web browsing. However, if using the 3G model with the AT&T connectivity, that drops down to about 9 hours. Not a world of difference many will say, only 1 hour. Keep in mind, that means 10% of the usage. On the other side, if contemplating the wi-fi edition, keep in mind that the device is permanently wi-fi only, it has no ability to be upgraded or added later.
So no matter what the use of the device, most people can agree that at one time or another, it would be great to have the 3G capability, whether it be listening to Pandora Radio in the car, or catching up on your favorite ABC shows with their free app. Now it is up to you to decide, is it worth the $130 price difference, plus the data plan, or is your data going to be constrained to wi-fi environments only. And so the question again is posed, 3G, or not 3G?
